Signs and symptoms of teen depression include: constant feelings of irritableness, sadness, or anger, nothing seems fun anymore, feelings of worthlessness, guilt, or just "wrong" in some way, sleeping too much or not enough, frequent, unexplained headaches or other physical problems, everything makes you cry, gain or loss of weight, lack of concentration, feeling helpless and hopeless, and thoughts of death or suicide. Feelings of harming yourself or others may become very strong and you should seek help right away. There are various hotlines available for teens to get help if they are going through these problems. There are many causes of teen depression. Some of these cases include: academic stress, social anxiety, romantic problems, traumatic events, family issues, heredity, financial struggles, physical and/or emotional neglect, low self-esteem, and helplessness. Teen depression is also attributed to parents not raising their kids with the right tool for coping with pressure from the media. Teens spend an average of 8 and a half hours on electronic media on any given day.
