Treatment
Treatment for depression isn’t limited to just adults, teens can also get medication for depression. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), have been proven to be beneficial to the treatment of teens who suffer major depression disorders. There is a flaw with these antidepressants: most contain “black box” label warnings. Which mean that these may include side effects that could lead to suicidal thoughts or actions, and cause abnormal behaviors, such as: insomnia, agitation, and lack of social interest. Teens on any antidepressants should be closely monitored for at least a month of being on the treatment. SSRIs include medications such as fluoxetine (Prozac), sertraline (Zoloft), paroxetine (Paxil), citalopram (Celexa), escitalopram (Lexapro), fluvoxamine (Luvox).
